When we started searching for lighting, we had a difficult time finding something that would suit our house. The worst part, we knew what we wanted in our mind, but we couldn't find it (Isn't that always the case?).
For our great room, we considered indirect lighting* but the complexity of wiring through our rafters on each beam didn't thrill us. We also didn't know how much light it would give us. Would it have been enough?
So we went with uplighting. We didn't want the traditional spotlight sconce that every lighting sales rep directed us to, like these Blink Black Wall Sconces, because we wanted the light to fill more of the space between each rafter.
We decided to think out of the box and looked at picture / display sconces and found exactly what we were looking for. This Swivel Wall Sconce was not recommended but we took that chance and it paid off. They are modern, simple, sleek and goes great with our black hardware. On dimmers, they light up the entire ceiling on high or set a mood on low.
I would highly recommend these lights and if you can't find what you're looking for, take a chance and try something different. You might be pleasantly surprised. And if you're not, check the return policy.
Indirect lighting: the source of light is hidden and the light spreads through the room via reflection on the ceiling, floor, or wall, eliminating direct 'in-your-eyes' light and shadows.
Uplighting: the source of light is at the base of architectural details or points of interest, typically around the perimeter of a space, to draw attention up to those details.
