C is for getting Clarity on your project.
So many homeowners come to me as an architectural designer not really knowing what they want. And trust me when I say a lot of them say they know exactly what they want, but when I start to ask them questions, everything unravels and they’re not sure anymore or they can’t put it into words.
Get really clear.
Write down what you like and dislike about your home or even homes you stayed in or visited. Save and organize inspirational pictures. Even better, make notes why you saved each specific picture. If you've noticed that you've pinned the same picture more than once, make note of that. There's a reason for that.
Take your time on this step. This isn't a 'get it done in one sitting' sort of thing. This could take weeks if not months to really flush out.
Your team will be asking you a lot of questions, the key is to be prepared. Figure out as much as you can beforehand, not as you go. This will help speed up the process and not waste any time.
You would be amazed how many homeowners actually have contradicting likes / dislikes (whether that’s within their overall vision or between the couple), mix-matched inspirational images that confuse and steer their designer in the wrong direction, or can’t seem to answer specific questions asked by their team. Get clear. Even if it’s “have the Architect create me a piece of art”. Get clear on your expectations of that.
