Appliances

I highly recommend visiting Consumer Report when choosing your appliances. Become a member and subscribe to their online and/or printed magazine and do your research. Then schedule time to take a trip to your local appliance store and visit the products you've chosen in person.

This includes things like stoves, ovens, ranges, dishwasher, fridges, freezers, mini-fridges, wine coolers, built-in espresso machines, hood fans, and even things like washer and dryer, toilets, shower bases and bathtubs, if you haven’t yet. Are you going with gas or electri, or dual appliances? Make sure you check before you buy. Also check with your electrician in case you have a non-standard plug (we did!)

This alone is a big ticket item, so this goes without saying, but check with your Contractor on how much they’ve allocated to this item in the budget. If you can pull from another items in the budget, make sure you discuss that with the Contractor beforehand.
