Navigating Challenges on Site

Even the most carefully planned landscape project can hit a few bumps once work begins. Site conditions, material availability, or weather can all throw off your timeline. The key is not to panic—it’s about knowing how to respond.

Handling the Unexpected

  • Site Conditions: Sometimes the soil is rockier than expected, a slope is steeper, or drainage isn’t where you thought it was. These discoveries may require adjustments like adding retaining walls, improving drainage, or switching plant selections.

  • Material Delays: Natural stone, specialty plants, or custom features can be delayed due to supply chain issues. Having backup options (that still fit your design) can help you keep moving forward, or don’t be afraid to push pause (because it's not the end of the world). Talk with your team about the options.

  • Weather: Heavy rain, unexpected frost, or extreme heat can impact planting schedules. Flexibility is key here—better to delay than lose expensive plantings.

Stay in close contact with your landscape designer or contractor. Clear communication helps you make decisions quickly and keeps the project on track. And remember—delays aren’t always setbacks. Sometimes waiting for the right season or conditions means your plants will thrive and your investment will last longer.
