Sometimes you need an experienced perspective on one decision. Other times, you want someone in your corner throughout the project, someone who understands where you are, what comes next, and what you may not have thought to ask yet.
Homeowner HQ offers both.
Here’s how they compare and how to choose the right fit for you.
What Is Private Consulting?
Private Consulting is for the specific moment. You bring the question, decision, document, or situation you're working through, and we work through it together in a focused one-on-one session.
You might use a session to:
review plans
talk through a design decision
understand a scope or budget question
prepare for a conversation with your team
or work through something that has come up during construction.
It's intentionally focused. You don't need to commit to a program or follow a curriculum. You simply bring what's on your mind. Private Consulting is a good fit when you need experienced perspective on a particular question or decision.
You can book an hour at a time and bank unused time for a future session. Want to see what you can do in 1 hour? Read this.
What Is Private HQ?
Private HQ is different. It's designed for homeowners who don't just want help with one decision. They want experienced guidance available throughout the project. Private HQ is a 12-month program with a structured path through your home project, resources and tools to use along the way, and ongoing access to support as questions arise.
There are two ways to experience Private HQ.
Private HQ — Self-Guided
The Self-Guided option gives you the framework and resources to navigate your project independently, with four 30-minute one-on-one consulting calls throughout the year. You'll have access to the Private HQ programs, tools, resources, and guidance, but you decide when and how you work through them. The four consulting calls give you dedicated time to bring your own project questions, review where you are, or get help with a decision that needs more context.
It's for the homeowner who is comfortable taking the lead but doesn't want to do it entirely alone.
Private HQ — Advisory
The Advisory option is the most hands-on level of Private HQ. Rather than having a handful of scheduled touch-points, you have ongoing one-on-one consulting throughout your 12-month project. This is for the homeowner who wants an experienced professional in their corner as the project develops—from early decisions through design, construction, and the moments in between.
You can bring questions as they arise, talk through decisions before they become permanent, review information from your team, and get perspective when something doesn't quite make sense. It's not about having someone make the decisions for you. It's about having someone who understands the bigger picture helping you make them well.
The Difference
Think of it this way:
Private Consulting
One question. One decision. One moment.
Private HQ: Self-Guided
A year of structure and resources, with four private consulting sessions when you need them.
Private HQ: Advisory
A year of ongoing, one-on-one guidance as your project evolves.
The right choice depends less on the size or value of your home and more on how much support you want along the way.
When Private Consulting Makes Sense
Private Consulting may be the right fit if you:
Have a specific question or decision to work through
Want to review something before taking it to your team
Need help understanding your options
Are at a point in the project where you feel stuck
Want experienced perspective without committing to a longer program
Sometimes one conversation is all you need.
When Private HQ: Self-Guided Makes Sense
Self-Guided may be the right fit if you:
Want a clear framework for navigating your project
Prefer to work independently
Want resources available when you need them
Like having scheduled opportunities to check in
Want guidance without ongoing one-on-one consulting
You remain in the driver's seat, with a better map and someone to call when you need help reading it.
When Private HQ: Advisory Makes Sense
Advisory may be the right fit if you:
Want ongoing guidance throughout your project
Expect a high level of complexity or decision-making
Want someone familiar with your project over the long term
Prefer to talk through decisions as they arise rather than waiting for a scheduled call
Want experienced perspective alongside your existing professional team
This is the closest thing to having an experienced home project consultant in your corner throughout the year.
Which One Is Right for You?
You don't need to know everything before you begin. In fact, most homeowners don't realize how many decisions, conversations, and unexpected questions are ahead until they're already in the process. That's where the difference between these options becomes useful.
If there's one thing you're trying to figure out, start with Private Consulting.
If you want a framework to guide your entire project and occasional one-on-one support, choose Private HQ Self-Guided.
If you want ongoing, personalized guidance throughout the year, Private HQ Advisory is the most comprehensive option.
The goal isn't to replace your architect, designer, contractor, or other professionals. It's to help you work with them more confidently with a better understanding of the decisions you're making and the process you're moving through.
Beautiful homes are worth the investment. So is knowing what you're doing before you make it.
