Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance

Your landscape doesn’t end when the last plant is in the ground. A well-designed yard thrives when it’s cared for—and the good news is, maintenance doesn’t have to take over your weekends if you approach it with the right plan.

Plant Care

  • Water deeply but less often to encourage strong root growth.

  • Add mulch around trees and beds to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

  • Prune shrubs and trees regularly to maintain shape and health.

Hardscapes & Features

  • Sweep patios and pathways to prevent dirt buildup and weeds in joints.

  • Reseal decks, pergolas, or wood features every few years to extend their lifespan.

  • Check retaining walls and fences for shifting or wear after heavy weather.

Seasonal Tasks

  • Spring: Clean beds, apply fresh mulch, fertilize, and check irrigation.

  • Summer: Monitor watering needs, deadhead flowers, and trim fast growers.

  • Fall: Rake leaves, divide perennials, plant bulbs, and prep for winter.

  • Winter: Protect tender plants, store outdoor furniture, and clear snow from structures to avoid damage.

Remember the saying: First it sleeps, second it creeps, third it leaps. The first three years are the most important. Stick with consistent care, and your landscape will reward you with easier maintenance and fuller growth over time. Ie. it will get easier over time.
