I bet you’ve been there.

We’ve all been there. 

You get in touch with someone, plan a meeting date and time… and they don’t show. Worse, they don’t return your calls / emails or, if you do manage to get a hold of them, they don’t even apologize that they left you hanging!

You’ve just been ghosted.

And the construction industry is full of ghosts. 

Building in a new town and hiring new trades instead of the team we know, like and trust, we were ghosted 2x. Looking back it was frustrating, time consuming and just downright rude. Like the time we wasted waiting on a waitlist only to be ghosted months later. 

Yes we’ve ALL been there. 

Including the time I showed up at the meeting, ghosted, was apologized to profusely, scheduled a second meeting, only to be ghosted again! Needless to say that was the last time. 

So don’t forget, it goes both ways.

Here are some great things to say when you’re on either side of the fence.

Hi [name],

Sorry for the delay in responding, we have been meeting with a number of [insert professional title(s)] and we have decided to work with a different [title] for our house. 

Thank you for taking the time to meet with us, walk us through your process and show us your work. We really appreciated being able to meet with you.

(from the homeowner perspective)

[name], 

It’s been [a couple of weeks] since we last heard from you. We last spoke about [ x ], and how [ x ]. 

We felt that your company would have been a great fit. And while we understand that you are very busy with your current clients, after your long silence, we can only assume that we are not a good fit for you. 

Correct us if we’re wrong, if you’re still interest in continuing our discussion, we would love to hear from you by the end of the week. If not, the feeling is mutual and we will look elsewhere.

Maybe it will sting for both parties just the slightest bit. That’s ok. 

I have a hunch you’ll both be better off for it.
